Well, it seems that landing on the Portland Navy (EGDP) strip is possible Done with the default Piper Cub, with about 20% fuel onboard.

A nice shallow approach


Touchdown at 33Kias!


With plenty of braking and rudder to avoid a nasty ground loop, I manage to stop...


...with plenty of runway left


Have a go yourself! But try it in faster and larger aircraft

Tried it in a 737. I needed about double the runway's length to stop Looks like I'm gonna have to try a lighter aircraft..

I dont ever remember having an airstrip on the island. I suppose there was that little strip down at the naval base. Mostly for helicopters and the odd harrier.

If so, it makes you think "WHY???"
Anyway, I'll get a nice big prop with reversible thrust-that ought to land on it.  ;D

Well let me explain to you my friend. Think about a civil jet. When they land, they use the spoilers, brakes and....reverse thrust, yes?
  A prop with reversible thrust is the same as that, only done with a prop instead of a turbofan engine.
