hibiscus aborts takeoff

Postby krigl » Fri Aug 26, 2005 5:28 pm

I was in Innsbruck with the hibiscus flavour Malaysian POSKY 747 trying to persuade the nosewheel not to sink into the tarmac and let me get off the ground when I had a spot of bother:

Spooling up the engines, brakes just released....
Image

Out of nowhere, a loony in a Mooney was crossing the runway just in front of me...I tooted my horn, but he wasn't quick enough and we collided...as one would expect, the results were drastic......
Image

...my airspeed was reduced dramatically in an instant, causing the forward cabin walls of all classes to be showered with toupees, false teeth, glass eyes and other objects detatchable from passengers under high G manoevers...
Image

... while unscathed by this encounter with hundreds of tons of speeding metal, the Mooney departed the runway and meandered off along its programmed path. Meanwhile I had to slap on brakes, reversers and spoilers and manfully grit my teeth in order to get her to stop by the end of the runway....
Image

Everyone had their bits put back and a nice cup of tea while we taxied back to the start of the runway... the second attempt was more successful...
Image

...and soon we were climbing over the mountains into...
Image

...the wide blue yonder. Happy end!
Image

Thanks to Lemoncat for the heads up on the POSKY 'snow effect"...which can be used any time but l like how it looks in the snow....

Thanks for looking

Great pics & great story Krigl.

I can only assume the the looney bravo didn't see your little plane coming - maybe you should consider a more visible paint scheme  ;D

Oh, & your right, 747 horns = useless  ;D

LOL!! Look at the expression on her face in shot 4, she has absolutely NO IDEA about what's just happened hahahaha (I know it's AI btw)

Probably didn't here you because she's got Charlotte Church blasting out on her Walkman there - bl**dy cheek!! ;D

I sincerely doubt that after an incident like that, you would be taking off so soon...    :)

Just one little question?
where did you find the 'snow effect'?

LOL! Bloody women drivers lol! ah well sorry if i offended the ladies out there, I've had enough experience dealing with west aussie drivers who drive like ma and pa kettle.

Speaking of which Hibiscus, I had a similar thing happen to me while I was mucking about doing screen shots for the competition. I was using the UPS MD-11 from this site, practising my short field landings, when wouldnt you know it, out from left field comes a 172 deciding to take the active.

Long story short I got my engine taken out and my passengers complaining to my boss.

LOL!!! Those light GA Sunday drivers are like lemmings, what is it with them ;D At least your airframe suffered damage, mine just lost speed and kept going, as did the Mooney. I wonder if the Cessna noticed being sucked into the MD-11's engine or if it also just took off as if nothing had happened...??

Just one little question?

The 'snow effect' comes with several POSKY 747s (maybe all, I don't know), is called  'opensky_conden' and  reference to it can be found in the Smokesystem part of the aircraft.cfg. It is activated by U or I (can't remember) in-game...so it doesn't appear by itself like some similar effects do, and is unconnected to snow. It  billows out of the engines, so the easiest way to add it to a different plane, I guess, would be to find one which has engine smoke and replace the file with this one... sorry if you know that already.... :) You couldn't upload such a plane though, POSKY wouldn't like that at all :)
