More People settle in at Hanks

Postby TSC. » Sat Aug 13, 2005 8:24 am

Hi all,

Just a few shots of Hanks Trading Post at the moment.

After I'd posted a question about adding AI to Hanks, our very own Dave3cu IM'd me to say that he had installed Hanks and was going to work on some AI files for the place.

Dave has very kindly sorted out & sent me some AI files, which I think really liven the place up - so now I have GA aircraft coming & going every 15 minutes or so, aswell as AI floatplanes to boot - I love it!!

My nextdoor neighbour now has a shiny new Cessna:
Image
A couple of the other guys have got a Aviat Husky & a Piper Cub on floats:

Just as I was leaving - holding short is the Cessna from the nearest cabin in the picture:

At the same time, the Piper Cub had taxi-ed into position & was just about to apply the power:

I decided to give the Cub a close escort out of the area:

Before I headed off on my original flightplan to visit 'Alaska Trophy Tours - Bear camp':

There she is, on top of that there hill:

Touching down. The US Forest Service has a hangar here aswell:

Time for yet another BFU barbecue - just a little bit smaller this time:

A very big thanks to Dave3cu for all of his time & effort that he has put into creating the AI files - they make my time at Hanks so much more interesting & fun.

Cheers,

TSC.

Hi James,

Yes - the scenery is all from BFU - I think its all great scenery & it certainly makes bush flying in Alaska much better - I finally have camps & bases to actually find!!

Just make sure that you install Gerrish Gray's Trees (.zip) as you will need the tree textures at the bases - oh & get Hanks Trading Post II - it's a blast!

Cheers,

Hmmm...any chance the AI files will be uploaded anywhere?

Yeah, I've been flying to all of those bases.  But I still cant decide what to fly too them.  I am not a big fan of the maule (I really don't like the flight model)

I have asked Dave3cu about this earlier in the week, at that time he was having a couple of little problems with some of the AI flying into mountains - here is a quote from his email:
The flying into mountains thing is the result of how
FS programs ai flight proceedures. They are sticklers
about 'following the book', at the expense of terrain
avoidance.  :-)

Am able to get most flights out now by creating a new
destination airport so they vector out thru the
valley.

Inbound (esp.for 26) is another matter. I've been
unable to find any way to significantly modify ai vs
rates, which appear to be best suited for flat places
like Kansas or the UK.  :-)

If I get that solved, I'm thinking of adding one or
more of Holger Sandmann's ai boats to the river. (If
you dont have it already, I suggest getting his
Columbia River Gorge Project, from the FS2004 scenery
library)

As for posting shots with the ai, feel free. If asked
about the ai, it's a work in progress and will only be
published if I can work out all the problems. Maybe
someone pop in with a solution or 2.

Other than that, you could always IM Dave for some more information.

Cheers,

TSC.

What about Eric Dantes Twin Bonanza, thats a cracking little plane, with the BFU textures - there are lots of good bush plane to choose from in the BFU Aircraft Guide.

Thanks Woozy - I was beginning to wander whether people were starting to get bored of BFU planes yet. But for me they go hand-in-hand with the scenery & area.

For the record I am absolutely loving the flying around here & all the extra camps & bases just make the experience so much better - i'm having a real blast.

Cheers all, let me know when you get bored won't ya.

It just looks weird 'cause it's not in tail dragging mode. It's a Cub. :)

P.S. TSC, good job on 1,000! ..almost. ::)

Nice shots, that place looks a lot better with that traffic.

BTW. It looks like there is something wrong with the plane from the US Forest Service.

Have a nice barbecue.
