Never got around to checking the thing's peak, but I read that it's around 100,000 ft!  Freaky!

This is somewhere in Alaska, right? I'm almost certain I've seen that before.

nope.  It is in guyana.  go to SYKM, and you will see it.  The spike is about 70000 ft tall, and I've gotten down to about -125,000 ft in the hole.  turn off crash detect, dive in to the whole, and see what happens

Microsoft errors are always the most spectacular, aren't they?   ;D I'm DLing the patch for it, it fixes several other holes, too!

As to helicopter-ing down there, I'm rubbish with the helis, but maybe my Osprey can creep down in there...

I've seen kinda the same thing in CFS2 too... downloaded some Italy mesh for FS9 and hopped in a -190 and saw a spire that rose all the way up to 100,000 ft... but, I got rid of it 'cause it just isn't practical tryin' to chase hurricane's around a giant spire.  ;D

The biggest hole I've ever seen is when I screwed up the coordinates on an airfield I was makin' and ended somewhere in greenland in a 10,000ft. deep hole.. :-[
