Winter

Postby Sytse » Thu Aug 04, 2005 8:56 am

On a late winter afternoon I decided to do a little flying in the Skyhawk. Made a quick flight plan from EHLE to EHGG. It was a bit cold, a little snow falling down, but the sun was still shining trough the clouds. Everything looked nice and calm.

Levelled her off at 2,000 ft. Nice flying, almost no turbulence. Put the pitot heat on, just to be sure...
Image

Uh oh!  :o That looks bad! Better get her down quick!
Image

Thunderstorm, turbulence, windshear, icing, heavy snow...    :'( Wasn't the best landing I ever made.
Image

Pfew! I'm happy I finally parked her! Time for a hot drink...

Next time I take her out, I won't forget to have a glimpse at the weather report  :-[

(Can't see the snow in the pics, dunno why...)

No it looked to me like ice had formed around the wings, and cowling. Apparently its just the way it was painted.

Strange coincidence...we just had a series of bad storms that caused a lot of damage here in Michigan...

Our telecommunications firm has been busy with calls...on is a hotel in Mackinac City (three hours away...and no we can't fly there :( )

Their system done rode the lightning...

And I have no doubt the weather is not through...
