Virtual Sailor

Postby marick626 » Sat Jul 09, 2005 6:28 pm

Well, Ive been loocking very hard for a boat simulator with the same or better graphics than flight simulator, and I havent found it yet ;D. But I did make a very interesting find. Its called virtual sailor (keep in mind, I only have the demo, so I only have 3 boats) one boat is a yacht, the second is a sailboat and the third is a combination of both. ::).

The graphics arent the best though
Image

you can control anithing on the boats, including the sails.
Image

ther are lots of different ai boats.
Image

you can even control the wave height :o
Image

you can find allot of other boat addons and stuff.
Please, if you know another boat simulator please, post it here. ;)

their website is here http://www.hangsim.com/vs/

cheers

First Orbiter Space Flight Simulator, then Racer Simulator, NOW A BOAT SIMULATOR??!!

I'm noticing a trend here.

I don't like boating around. I may have grounded myself with my Ferrari, but I don't like swiming. Therefore, I only downloaded a demo like you did just to see how it looks.

What's next? A Motorcycle simulator?

Too bad you don't see that kind of water in FS. :(

But then again, M$ might apply it. Or better yet, one of us simmer might come up with a utility.

My idea, considering how much resources the sim itself takes up, is just to allow the waves to show up whenever you flow low enough and be visible up to a certain distance [much like the Autogen].

Just my 2 cents.

I don't know if they changed it, but I used to have it, you could put any add-on you wanted on it (I added like twenty boats, animals, some new scenery, etc.), but you only had like five or ten minutes to play at a time, no problem though, because when you started up the game again, it was where you left off.

Also, with mine, I could move around like you could with active camera using the numpad.

Why does everyone like that water? It looks everything but natural.

I agree... for some really tasty seas in a boatsim, check out Silent Hunter III

The water textures are real, at least from what I see on lake michigan, 3 years of boat trolling (fishing) but maybe not everywhere else, Cheers, Gunny

The water could be considered realistic if it was seen in a puddle, or a small pond. Otherwise it's fairly shocking.

Boat simulators are in general a bad idea. You can never replicate the feel of a boat on a computer in the way you can a car or plane. And i'm yet to see a tiller for a computer. :P

I agree.

The boats in this sim [the demo one] don't seem to travel that fast even at maximum thrust and the water effects need tweaking - like the transparency and reflections.
