Aahhhhh... that's better

DLd the "next generation" SRTM terrain mesh for Hawaii (by Peter Palmain) recently. Haven't flown much in FS9's Hawaii, so i thought I'd take "Jojo" for a spin to check it out... density settings are my normal ones; not quite max.

Departing Kaalaiki; looks pretty good so far..

Not sure if this volcano near Mountain View is included in default mesh, but it's pretty cool. A closer look? I'm not flying right over that thing!

Nice-looking canyon on the NE shore of the big island... not sure about that road, though (or is it a river)... oh well, it's freeware...

Leaving the big island behind...

South side of Lanai... that looks great!

Descending towards Kaneohe Bay, on my way to landing at Kahuku... woops, that cliff face to the right was still drawing when I snapped this.

Nice... but have you ever tried the world-mesh from simv for that area? Those "elevated" airports still bug me a bit... or is this so in reality?

Love the choice of plane though...

That is in fact an update for that same mesh which fixes some errors, as I understand it. Have no idea whether or not Kaalaiki airstrip really looks like that- can't find a picture anywhere. Chances are its published elevation doesn't quite jibe with the surrounding mesh.
As for "Jojo": I really like that Twin Bonanza- good island-hopper, and pretty manageable at those short-field airports.  Also has a lovely VC with all the bells and whistles usually only found in 2D cockpits.

I'm a bit leary of large meshes (hence why I haven't purchased USA Roads, or ultimate terrain).

I had some conflicts with the SRTM mesh here on SimV, so I quit using it.

But to each his own taste!  And you're right RD, it's freeware!

And might I add that those are some Mi-T-fahn shots?

The problem with the airstrips and lakes is due to M$ ... the coding of FS doesn't allow them to  change in elevation, therefore ......... sunken and raised airfields and lakes.
