Now what is wrong with this picture?

besides the fact that I have crashed, is the fact that MS for some odd reason decided that putting a Telephone Pole right in front of the runway was a good idea.

On my final I thought to myself maybe the plane will just past through it. NOt ...I heard a loud "CLANG" and that is where my plane ended up!

I love the atc-box after a crash, either "no messages to transmit" or "handing over to ground control"...  ;D

That pole is a brilliant idea to spice things up!  ;)

I don't really see a reason to ever have crash detection on.  maybe it's just because I'm a long-haul pilot at heart, who doesn't find it funny when all of a sudden I'm told that I've just crashed into some scenery item on a CAT III... ::)

Not to mention, hitting a mere telephone pole would not bring down an airliner...

An airport I visit in real life, Red Lodge -- KRED, has the same problem, only it's with an antenna and trees. The trees in the sim are where a rodeo arena and road is in real life. And the trees and antenna on the other end are much farther away in real life....

Anyone else notice that the trees a really high in FS? Almost unrealistically so. I was hovering at eye leve with one and the radar alitmeter said something like 120 feet!!  :o

I know why I use the crash detect. It puts your flying skills to the test. With crash detect off when you land too hard and you know you should have blown up. Instead you bounce off the ground and I think that takes the pleasure out of enhancing your skills to fly more correctly.

As far as this airport goes, I just enter the runway on the other end now to avoid that telephone pole. The funny thing I just realized that airport is not intended for commericial airplanes to land in  :-[! The read me file of the scenery says its a "General Aviation airport". Meaning small planes only which can avoid the telephone pole on landings! ;D My bad! I still land 727 and 737's in there anyway!  :)

Just land long or at a steeper descent angle. Or if your plane is maneouverable enough you can sidestep off centerline, miss the pole, then line back up right quick.
