Gettin' Damp in a Stampe

Postby Sock » Wed Mar 30, 2005 10:27 pm

Well, it was suppose to be a beautiful afternoon in BC.  A perfect day for flying.  There were only to be small showers later in the evening, so I decided to take up the old Stampe for trip down the river and back.

Good ol' D lifted off the runway...

And I began my IFR (I Follow Rivers) flight.

Well, then the rain started to come a bit earlier than the weather man had anticipated...  Only a slight drizzle though...
Image

I decided to turn tail and head for home, just to be on the safe side you know.  ;)

But, much to my distaste, the weather got worse and worse.  The rain came down harder, the winds blew me this way and that, and the clouds closed in.
Image

Just my luck, huh?  I followed the river the best I could back and radioed the tower...

"Castlegar Tower, November one niner two four Hotel, request landing full-stop runway 12, Castlegar."

"November one niner two four Hotel, Castlegar, request denied, airport under IFR conditions."

I started out IFR!  :P

Well, I wasn't about to stay up there in that soup and wait for it to dry up, so I landed anyway.  ::)  Better safe than sorry, right?

And after a hop skip and a bounce on landing I taxied to my hangar...

Now I need a towel, ATC wants to talk to me for some reason, and I think when thats all done, I'm goning to have a word with that weather man.  ;)

Happy flying!  8)

Interesting thing, I have found two models of that plane...one is Eric Dante's found here...good stuff to be had there by the way!

The other is here....that's the one the Orange Juice repaint fits on by the way, though I haven't tried it with the first one...

Nice shots!

Inspiring story Sock! Lovely weather to fly an open cockpit! The windows won't get damp that way!  ;D I just hope you didn't forget your goggles...

Jordon:  I have both those models.  They are pretty much the same.  The silver one is just an older model I believe.  The blue one has newer instruments and radios and has a clean cockpit.  The only difference I've found between the two is that one has newer avionics.  And the propeller hub.  I just took the panel, instruments and cockpit textures from the older one and threw them in the one you see above.  Only reason I fly that one is because I modified the paint sceme to my liking.  Name on the door, pretty girl on the nose, you know!  ;)

Goggles Kris?  Goggles??  Only wimps were goggles!!

Thanks for the kind words gents!  I may post more this little gem, take it on a trip or something.  But then again...  I'm a busy guy.  ::)
