I am with Foxhound here, too.
The VC gives a 3d touch in it, where the 2d panel is just popped in.
I don

You put a little reflector on your forehead and you've got a recognition device. If you move your head, the detector transmits the movement into electronic signals, which will then go directly into the sim to move your eyepoint.
This means if you look down, your eyepoint in the sim will pan down,too.
Actually, it makes looking around in all kinds of sims easier, but this device costs about $250 and is not that necessary when you've got a coolie hat on your joystick.

The thing about TrackIR too is that your eyes still have to stay on the monitor to see the screen (obviously).  You can turn your head around all you want, but how annoying would it be to have to keep your eyes focused on the same spot while you do it?
Great edit, Bob.

VCS RULE!!!! I ONLY fly from the vc.   I mean, real planes don't have "cockpits"  BTW, I fly with .5 zoom because that makes it feel like youre in the pilots head.

Totally Hyperion ::)

Wouldn't turn one down if offered to me though.
i know this is kinda off topic but has anyone ever used those 3-d goggles for FS, i just wanna know what they're like. I was close to buying a pair but i found out they were only compatable with CRT moniters. :( :( :(

TrackIR is really cool for things like LOMAC or other combat games too.  You only need small head movements to move the view alot which is quite hard to get used to, but once I got used to it, I couldn't fly without it.  It is so much easier to just glance down at your instruments while on approach or something with TrackIR, I would have to recommend it for anyone with a head. ;D  TrackIR 3  is only $109 in US now and worth every penny in my opinion.  Given the choice between TrackIR and rudder pedals in addition to a joystick, I would definitely go with TrackIR.

Another thing about track IR which pretty cool, aside from looking around, if you move up, down, forwards or backwards it does the same in the simulator. I reckon that must be good for landing in VC, you can look up and over the panel.

TrackIR is quite unnecessary for combat sims, since in every combat sim there's a nice little function called "pad lock".

Oooh really?  Geez, that alone may have reversed my opinion.  Hmmm....
