The Mickey Mouse was a famous nose art, Adolf Galland, one of the most famous german pilots of WWII had it, too on his BF-109 "Schlageteer".

Now I wouldn't say that's completely true.
It's more of a satirical look of American influences on the world throughout the twentieth century.
With a few dabs of anti-Americism thrown in for effect.
