been away for a bt so I might have missed the release, anywho cool shots. Try doing it in a jet though, great fun  ;D ;D ;D ;D

It is the new Fox Four campaign Craig, we're beta-testing it at the moment. The first mission in this is a carrier landing, so you have to do it! I kept trying to land like a Seafire which involved several wave-offs :-[ But I've mastered it now, and I've only had one wave-off in the last 2 days! 8)
How many times have you had to call on Grasshopper thusfar Roger, so far I've avoided their services... but that could change on the next mission!

That low approach was the closest I

I've perfected holding her just above the stall on approach now, and unlike the Spit do a straight in approach and you'll be fine, just don't forget your tailhook like some pillock did the other day :-[ ;D

Ocean Fury is based in Korea like our previous campaigns. This one features the Hawker Sea Fury operating from HMS Ocean. This was specially created by Collin Glendinning for the campaign & is a straght-decked Colossus Class light fleet aircraft carrier.
Ocean, with Hellcats and Fireflies embarked, was preparing for active service in Home waters when hostilities ended. On December 4th 1945 the first ever deck landing by a jet on an aircraft carrier took place aboard Ocean. The aircraft a, de Havilland Vampire, was flown by Lieutenant Commander E. Brown, whilst Ocean was off the Isle of Wight. In 1949 she assumed the role of Flagship Flag Officer (Air) and second-in-command Mediterranean Fleet. Ocean rotated operations of Korea with HMS Glory every six months until the war ended in 1953. In 1952 a propeller driven Sea Fury flying from Ocean shot down a MiG-15 Jet powered fighter. In 1954 she was refitted for service as a Training Ship. Ocean was converted for helicopter use and in 1956 Ocean and Theseus landed Royal Marine Commandos in Suez, the first time troops had be landed by helicopters. In 1957 assumed the role of Flagship of Flag Officer, training Squadron Home fleet. She was placed on reserve in 1958 and laid up on the River Tamar. Sold in 1962 for breaking up, arriving at Faslane on May 6th.


I'm no naval expert but I think the "Meatball" landing aid was developed for angled-deck carriers & was a British invention like the angled deck itself. Collin will no doubt correct me here. ::)

You are quite correct Doug, the meatball sytem (or Mirror Landing Aid System to give it its correct name) was invented by Commander H.V.N. Goodhart of the RN.
The first such system was used in 1953 on HMS Indomitable, the USN were so impressed that they immediately had it installed on all their carriers ;)

Actually, the system was first installed onto a model carrier in Commander Goodhart's office. The first person to successfully attempt a "landing" was his secretary. ;) ;D
