Continuing With The Lake

Postby jordonj » Mon Jan 24, 2005 7:58 pm

Welll, my story didn't exactly end with my arrival to Pensacola...though Russell, Dee Dee, and I stayed with some friends of his.  We celebrated Hanukkah and New Years (the best of both worlds), and did some other fun things.

Trouble was some guy who wasn't supposed to be flying (he'd had his license revoked some time ago), crashed into my plane in the parking area.  He didn't total the plane, but chewed up the wing pretty good...>:(

He (of course) tried to insist that it wasn't his fault, that I was parked wrong, blah blah blah ::)

He was ordered to pay for repairs, but then ordering them to pay is one thing, getting them to do it...

He finally paid (after spending a night in jail), and my Lake has finally been pronounced airworthy.  I'm raring to get going to Jacksonville!

Russell and Dee Dee are taking a cruise, so as Bob Seger would say I headed off alone

Interesting that I should leave by this runway (due to the wind, it hasn't been in use for some time)...

I ran into a bit of soup east of Pensacola.

An Airforce chopper on routine patrol followed me for a bit.  They had a digital camera and snapped this shot.  They were happy to e-mail me a copy...

Image

Because there was not a nearby VOR, I was flying dead-reckoning for a bit.  Since I knew to go East...I wasn't worried.

Image

The rest of the flight was uneventful...I didn't snap another shot until I was on Final to KJAX...this airport was a bit more busy than KPNS...

Image

One of the ground workers caught this...glad to know I still have it (after being away from the Lake for so long...)

Image

I had a bit of a long taxi, but I made it to parking...

I plan to visit an old friend tomorrow...
