Flying in the clouds

Postby Bell206freak » Tue Dec 28, 2004 6:01 am

Took another flight to the Mt. St. Helens area again.  Nothing too spectacular as far as volcanic activity, but at least it wasn't raining like it has been recently. I took off from Randle-Kiowa Airpark and did some general flying in the area and was actually going to fly north to Mt. Rainier. But, I decided to head towards Mt. St. Helens since I'd heard the clouds were breaking up.

It was one of the better flights I've had while flying in cloudy weather.

Approaching the volcano from Coldwater Ridge.  The only portion visible is the base of the peak.  I'm thinking, "Yeah, sure. These clouds aren't breaking up!", but I continue flying on a hope that I may get to see something.

About four miles NE at the start of a pedal turn to head back, and the cloud starts to break up, offering a view into the crater. A view that has been impeded by cloudy and rainy weather for weeks.
