Crazy pilot in Atlanta.

Postby Triple_7 » Fri Nov 26, 2004 5:21 pm

I'm guessing this guy got his pilots license revoked after this one.

While i was awaiting takeoff clearence for a few touch and goes here at KATL i noticed an aircraft on aproch.  Something didnt seem right though.  He was flying parallel to me and not even turning towards the runway.
Image
Soon after this nut is in contact with the tower... Finaly identified as Delta 29 coming in from Paris.  5 miles out and once again way off the aproch.
Image
Decending fast and not even close to the runway yet the tower still clears him to land :o
Image
After finaly noticing the mistake he pulls a steep climb and declares a missed aproch.  Who ever put this guy in charge of a 777 must have been insane as well :P

If anyone has any idea what might be causing this advise on how to fix it would be greatly appriciated.  I only have this problem with flights into Atlanta.  They all come in on insane aproches and sometimes even land as if a runway went trough the center of the airport.  I have not added scenery for KATL or AFCAD files.  It is just the stock airport.  I manualy install each route using a program called Y-Route.  Never had a problem till now. ???

Weird.  Though, that's FS AI for you.  You'd think they would've taken the lessons first! ;D

I noticed it says 'Good Day' - I know that phrase and 'Thank you' and such are included in the voicepacks, but I've never, ever heard ATC say it.  Maybe I'm just rude to ATC...  ;)

Hey,

Really?  I could've sworn that I have heard the ATC say 'good day' especially like when they would drop my IFR flight plan when I would have to go to the bathroom and not press that little forgotten 'p' button.

Anyways, I have never seen anything like that from AI.  The weirdest thing I have seen is a gigantic 737 barrelling over my little mooney bravo as I am trying to land at KSFO.  (As I am sure everyone has) ::)

That's all these AI pilots turning their ILS I/Ds off so they don't know what R/W they're approaching. ;D

I found that they only said "Good Day" in FS2002.

Afraid that some of the downloaded AI FDEs leave a lot to be desired. Don't think many have actually been properly tested. Today I swapped the air file of a PAI 737 that wouldn't land on a shortish runway for the default. Result - lands perfectly.

For the life of me I have never understood why they put all the work into creating new FDEs when AI is all about VISUAL effect. Nobody cares what air file is used so long as it flies right.

Surely everyone has noticed ...'Airbus XYZ you are 300 below your assigned altitude......Airbus XYX you are 300 above your assigned altitude...etc' That's because the model is porpoising like crazy. Also all the 757s are in a constant state of freefall duting the cruise if you care to look at them.

Aswer in this case - just swap the bad air file for the corresponding default. It'll probably then work fine.

I only just noticed that...

Thing is, I don't have all the PAI packages...just the ones for the US...

Going back a few pages to find this again.  All of my AI is FS Painters models.  No packages are used.  I program each individule route using a program called Y-Route found over at www.spacejock.com          It works fine and is not the cause of the problem.   I downloaded an AFCAD file for atlanta and now it seems to be fine.  Though now i noticed Singapore is having a mild version of this problem only they are just coming in to high, go around, then land fine.  But i found in WSSS once the ATC clears them to ground frequency the aircraft just disapears from site.  Doesnt even show up at the gate ???  Going to download an AFCAD file for it and see if it helps.
