My Bestest Landing EvAr!!!11!!1

Postby Bell206freak » Sat Dec 11, 2004 8:08 am

This is probably my best landing ever as far as flying the Bell 206B JetRangerIII helicopter goes.  I was really nervous about it because I approached my landing site at a rather high rate of descent and at a high rate of speed.

My goal was to land on the pumice plain at the base of Mt. St. Helens' north side inbetween Spirit Lake and the mountain itself

Coming in from the north. I took off from Hoffstadt Bluffs and flew towards Randle, then turned sharply south towards the mountain about 14 miles north of Spirit Lake.  I'm two miles north of the lake - and ten miles north of the peak in this shot.

Touchdown!

Two views of the steaming crater.  I'm about two miles from the crater.

I've just installed ultra-high-resolution 9M terrain mesh for the mountain and some temporary photoreal textures until I get MegaScenery Pacific NW. Both files are at fsfreeware.com

Nice shots! Were you on multiplayer? If so, what server do you fly on?

I haven't been able to figure out how to get multiplayer to work, except for my LAN here at home.

That was AI traffic flying in the vicinity.

I was really impressed with this flight. Mainly because when I attempt landings of this nature, either I'm going too fast causing me to crash upon landing, or I flare the landing too much causing me to rip the tailboom off.

If it weren't for the insane cost of flight school, I'd try to become a real Bell 206 pilot.
