My refined default Tacoma Narrows Bridge textures

Postby Bell206freak » Fri Nov 19, 2004 3:26 pm

I recently redid the default textures for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and I decided to take a few screenshots to show the realism - based off of photos (and memory from driving over it a few times) of the actual bridge.

As soon as I refine the Hood Canal Bridge portion of the texture map, I'll release the texture fix here.

My third pass around the West Tower at a lower elevation. Mt Rainier and the Jackson Avenue housing development really shines.

Doing what's impossible (Really, it is - I shot this in slew mode).  Showing the detail of the texture fix - and the realism of the roadway including the transparency of the roadway grating and the expansion joints.

I hpe the bridge holds up better than the one they built back in the 50's. I saw the movie of it swaying around like whip. Cars and buses jumping up and down off it and people running scared, leaving their vehicles. I don't believe anyone lost their lives tho, not like the 2nd Narrows Bridge in Vancouver, BC. They call that one the "Ironworkers memorial" Bridge now. :(

The existing Tacoma Narrows Bridge has held up since completion in 1950. The first Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed on November 7th 1940 - a decade earlier - and only four months and seven days after opening to traffic.

Makes me wonder if FS2006 is going to have the 2nd Tacoma Narrows Bridge as part of its scenery - its scheduled for completion in 2007 - and is going up directly south of the existing one.

And FYI.. Only one car was thrown off of the bridge - an that was when it collapsed. The only occupant of the car was a dog belonging to the daughter of the car's owner. And that was the only car on the bridge at the time of its collapse, as it had been closed all morning.
