Got real water?

Postby JW49 » Sat Sep 11, 2004 1:34 pm

Just installed Bill Lyons' water effects and I've got to say I think they're a difference like night and day.  :o  I agree with everyone with negative posts about FS9's default water.  I can now actually look down and believe I'm over water.  :)  A few shots of Lake Michigan.....

Nice shots MC ;)
I have to agree that the add-on water effects make the world of difference. Pop down to the Caribbean in a float plane, and just drool ;) ;D

Nice shots.  Personally, I prefer the Lemoncat effects as they look better close-up (especially in a floatplane).

But it's all subjective...

Glad you found out about that!

You know, i'm not convinced by it. It looks like smooth water photographed from a couple of metres away. So when it's blanketed over oceans and scaled up its not going to look all that good. :P

I've spent almost 18 years on the ocean and I have to say, that water looks pretty, but in my humble opinion, unrealistic. The waves are too big and far apart.

Now, there are times, when the water is so calm it looks like glass.

I'll try it anyway.

Thanks

Added: For some reason, the textures look better in the sim. I wonder if it's possible to get a more random appearence out of the waves, kinda like the async. AI strobe lights. All the reflections move in unison and that's unrealistic. But it sure does look beautiful.

Skittles is correct about his assesment regarding Bill Lyons water effects, that's why I use modified OceanFX2

Nexus, I guess it's all personal preference, and yours looks pretty good, :) but.........I've flown many tens of thousands of miles over oceans and I can't ever recall, from any altitude, that dimpled/stippled look of the water surface.
