Back to Civilization

Well, after that little hike last night, was in a coma till I felt a hand shaking my foot...Mr. G and Alundra wanted breakfast...:P.  I was of a mind to tell them what they could do with their breakfast, but that's not what I'm being paid to do...so I hauled myself up, and got the fire going.  After they were done, they asked if I wanted to join them hiking, but I declined and went back to sleep for another 2 hours.

I made contact with Old Nell...it turns out that he likes modern gadgets, and was willing to buy that TV that Mr. G got back in Mackinac City.  He also gave me a lift and helped me cart 15 more gallons of fuel from the airport to the plane.  The hard part was getting it in as I didn't want to spill the stuff here.

I checked, strained, and double-checked the plane.  I was ready to go, but strangely enough, the weather looked like summer and Alundra wanted to tan again!  So I had some more time to nap! ;D

Later that evening, I got the camp struck and packed.  I also spent some time cleaning up the area (I may have quit Boy Scouts...but they have not quit me).

Poor Mr. G was quite badly sunburned, and solarcane was not in my supplies (though I did have some aloe vera lotion).  Alundra applied this to his burned areas while I got things ready to go (she also took some snaps).

That Alundra has a really great eye...she caught this shadow from the setting sun in the halo of the Xenon lights...cool no? 8)

Some campers caught us departing towards the setting sun (I was taking off runway 10 due to the wind)...

Image

I shot a few myself of the setting sun (Alundra and Mr G leaned out of the way...

There's Drummond 1 (Y66)...

As we headed to Alpena Co Regional (KAPN), a military chopper on routine patrol got this of us.  That Maule looks like it is made for working!

Image

On approach to Runway 19 I was to follow a Cessna on final.  I spotted them and they were turning around, so I did the same.  As I said before, the Maule does not slow down easily and so I had to play around to get it to do so.  As I was on final, the Cessna was taxiing down the runway...which has no taxiways until way further down.  I was sweating a bit as I didn't want to go around (Mr. G was moaning with the sunburn and I had to visit the restroom).

Then I saw the Cessna turn and heard it handed off to ground.  I breathed a sigh of relief and got us down smoothly...

Image

And parked us next to a Piper!

After I had taken care of my immediate needs, we hurried to a drug store to get Mr. G something for his burn (we found plenty).  Alundra and Mr. G want to check out the town for a day or two (there is an art fair in town).

Wonder what cool birds are available for rental here (hmmm...Ludo is holding another air show ;D 8) )

Lovely stuff Jordanj, we really don't have enough floatplanes around lately. Have you tried the Fury float?
