Toronto to Toronto......Part 38

Postby ludo62 » Sat Aug 28, 2004 2:30 pm

Well it's time to anounce the winner from yesterday's airshow contest ::). The winner by a long mile was a guy called Ozzy, so he wins the $6000 prize. Davy got second place which earned us $3000. Ozzy flew right after Davy landed, and i must say that he's quite the stuntman. I have never seen acrobatics performed with an aircraft like that before, a true work of art :o. We wanted to congratulate him with his performance, but he left right after receiving his winnings (too bad). We celebrated our good performance with a cold brewsky and some fried bologna (not so popular so far in Africa). Then i took the Spitfire for a short spin around the airport, WOW does it fly great or what i'm gonna ask one for my birthday from my grandpappy (i'll have to wait until january for it :( ). We would have had a fairly good night's rest if it wasn't for those monkey's in the trees that were making noise most of the night, i threw Davy's shoes at their heads, but the stupid thing just ate it :-/. So now Davy lost a pair of shoes again (remember when he stepped in the poo) and the monkey's were making even more noise now because all of them were sick from smelling Davy's shoes :-/ . After we recovered from all that stink hanging around the airport we headed to our next destination, Freetown's Lungi airport (GFLL) in Sierra Leone.

Magnificent sunrise over Guinea-Bissau 8).

Plentiful lakes and rivers over Guinea-Bissau ;).

More beautiful rivers and lakes over Sierra Leone :D.

Suddenly i heard a massive impact on my left engine, i took a fast look and found my left engine on fire :o. I radioed Lungi airport to inform them of my situation. They replied that they could see me in the distance and then took this picture of my burning plane :-[ . The airport asured me that they would be ready when i landed with fire extinguishers and first aid (if necessary).
Image
For the first time in my life i'm going to attempt a landing with only one engine (on a twin prop). Wish me luck :o.
Image
Made it on the runway eventhough it was very bumpy and i was sliding from one side of the runway to the other ::).
Image
This is what the plane looked like after the fire was put out (it's still smoldering) i had some burns on my left arm (a nice looking nurse took care of that for me). The mechanic is having a look at it as we speak to determine what the damage is and how much it will cost.................The mechanic said that there wasn't too much damage and that it would only cost $500, he also showed us what caused the problem, it was a local bird called pigeonafricanusselfdestructus, we have a picture of it ;D.

This is the picture of the perpetrator that almost ruined our beautiful plane :'( .( the Pigeonafricanusselfdestructus)

More (sigh) is coming soon for all you story freaks :D. Happy flying.
