Guess I should have told how to get the drivers installed only, if using the install CD it can be tricky.
First insert the install CD, try to cancel it asap while it is doing its thing. Once you stop its autorun you can go into Device Manager, locate your printer and do the update driver thing.
Allow Windows to locate the file itself and it will install only the driver.
This is sufficent to just print, in order to use the scanner you will need to install the software.
Problem with HP software is it won't give you the choice of which features install, and that is the only reason I hate HP.
As far as quality I think they are some of the best printers as far as price and the ink is cheap also, unlike Lexmark to buy refill ink doesn't cost more than you can buy the printer for
