Another Little Question...

Postby cspyro21 » Wed Jun 21, 2006 1:23 pm

Hi all,
I have another question here - the usual way I (and perhaps others) access their graphics/video card is to go onto "Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced", like so:

Image
Usually I can press the "Advanced" button and there is a tab with my graphics/video card's settings/setup on it, but as you can see (at the top of the next pic), there is no tab to access my video card's settings:

Does anyone out there know another way to access my video card's settings so I can turn on Anti-aliasing, Anisotropic (is that spelt right?) Filtering etc?

Thanks :)

(P.S. Sorry if I sounds like a total novice, I feel really stupid asking this question  :-[ ::))

When I first installed my Nvidia Card a small icon appeared with all sort of things to check & activate things on graphics, but cannot find it now.

I did set those things not only within fs9 but externally in winxpvia that facility.

Chect in your grfx card or windows or system folder, you may find that.                  luke

Right click on a open space on your desktop, in the menu you should have a listing titled "Nvidia Display".
There you go.

I've never seen that.

cspyro21,
Your second pic shows that you are on the general tab, not the adapter tab where you would normally find the settings, however, the adapter tab usually shows when a generic windows driver is installed.

Installing a recent signed forceware driver will show a tab with your video card's name on it when you access those settings, and that is where you will find the driver settings.

Without any further info on your problem, it looks like you need a Forceware driver.

Dont know where it came from but it is the way I access my Nvidia control panel.
I have it on my 7800 GT's and also my Go6800, so it may be a feature that came with driver update???

It's quite possible that I don't have that function available because I disable much of the driver's automated application subroutines, it's just that I never saw that available yet.

This might depend on your video card driver. I have an NVIDIA settings icon in my System tray. Right-click on that for advanced options.

Yes, the icon in the system tray is normal, it's from a background application that's totally not required.

nVidia runs a service in Services as well, also not of any practical use as far as I can tell.

I install the Forceware drivers then I have to go through the system and disable all the garbage running in the background. I've been doing this for years.

While these few nVidia applications have little effect on system overhead, consider the combined impact of background apps installed by all your drivers and other installed software, as well as a plethora of useless background services run by windows for functions few will ever use and you may have a significant drain on your PC's resources.

I DLd a little tweak that "unlocks" the advanced settings on my 5700LE... can't recall where I found it  (and I'm on my work "craptop" so I can't give you the file name), but if you google "nvidia drivers" or "nvidia tweaks" I bet you'll find it.
Sounds like that's what you need, although if you saw the tab before, you might just want to reload whatever software came with the card.
