Static IP - am I wrong?

Postby grizzard » Fri Nov 27, 2009 2:37 pm

3 of us regularly do FSX Multiplayer through GameSpy which is marginally acceptable. Sometimes you can't get in, sometimes you get disconnected, and sometimes things are out of sync. I have Hughes satellite (Dynamic IP) and the other 2 guys have Cableone IP (both Dynamic IPs). I usually am unsuccessful in setting up as Host so one of my partners does. I do not know how to setup Multiplayer any differently so I'm looking for advice. I'm sure there must be better ways to play Muliplayer. I'm willing to pay $10 extra monthly to secure a static IP from Hughes if that would be helpful .... but I don't know the ins and outs of a static IP versus what I have .... a dynamic, or NAT.  Any advice apprecitated.

Gizz....

If you are all using FS 2004, have you tried using the Sim V Server (which most/all of us use)?

http://cockpit.netfrag.org:81/

Easy, instant connection...and Free!.... :)....!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004....FS Navigator... 8-)...!

(FSX may be a little more complicated, but still available through the same Server?)

If you use a Router, the usual Router Port problems must be sorted out first.

How knowledgeable are you with ports?
For some reason 6073 and 2322-???? always time out on me...
Although a majority of them do not. I am trying to connect to the fs2004 simv server but can't due to port problems.
More information is on my thread.

I feel your Pain Tai.... [smiley=evil.gif]... ;D...!

As I mentioned in the Multiplayer Thread, I threw out my troublesome Router many years ago because of un-curable Port Problems during Multiplayer... >:(...and now use just a simple external Zoom Wired ADSL Modem exclusively, connected directly to the 'Phone Line...with no Port problems whatsoever!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Navigator...and a Router buried in my Garden... ;)...!
Zoom over here!

... I cannot be wired at all unless I had a 50 foot cable and the two other computers in my house that connect wireless wanted to do it as well with the same length cable :|.

... and at&t told me they cannot help me yet again!
I even got some tech person who did not know what I was talking about "forwarding ports" and how to allow my modem to allow them...
I eventually found out how... but minority of them still want to time out.

For me it was a case of priorities...

(a) Use the Modem+Router for Internet Browsing and abandon the On-Line Games (Flight Simulator), etc....

(b) Or dump the Router altogether and enjoy Browsing and playing the On-Lines Games every day, with just the Modem....

The two never worked successfully together!... :'(...!

We are all using FSX and not FS2004.  My router is the Hughes Satellite DW7000S which is a combination modem/router/gateway I think, and it ports out to a Switch that has 7 total computers plugged into it. Everything is NAT so nobody can connect to my computer directly ... which is what I would like to make available.  But I don't know the Ins and Outs of a Static IP ... nor does their seem to be any information I can find on how to really set it up for Multiplayer?

I may be able to help now that I know your router information.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r218934 ... Net-DW7000

But to create a static IP (for me anyways) you can go to from there should be simple. Although you have to make sure noone on your router has this ip you set. (I think this is how ya set it up)

***I am not responsible for any(if possible) damage done to your modem/router***
