I could tell you exactly why it crashed, but it would take me a while to type out, so I'll say it plain:
Boeing said it was OK for Alaska to put a new kind of grease in unit which adjusts the elevator pitch. Alaska did this, without cleaning out the old grease first, but they were not instructed to by Boeing. The two greases will not combine, and actually seperate from each other, causing a severe lack of lubrication in the screw. This lack of lube caused grinding and seizure of the unit, which disabled effective elevator control.
There is a lot more to it, but I'm tired, and have a job interview tomorrow, might be working at a Cessna (and other manufacture) service station.
