Hi guys, Hagar emailed me about some questions arising.
Smoke2much, you haven't said what type of convoy you are making. There were 3 basic one's- slow, fast and troop.
The large liners tended to be grouped into convoys of 5 or less, the escorts if any would be cruisers, sometimes they would go it alone at full speed until they neared the shores, then would pick up escort which would guide them through swept channels. They would zigzag, with its attending dangers as the Queen Mary found out when she ran down a cruiser. These convoys tended to start from around Florida and go to Liverpool via North of Ireland. Others would start at New York, go to Miami then onto liverpool or Capetown, Darwin.
Slow convoys would have corvette escort with some older destroyers, and fast would have fleet destroyers.
Only the Malta and Murmansk convoys had fleet carrier escort.
Smoke was a problem from old steamers but warships made as little as possible as this reflected on the efficiency of the engineering dept.
The C type destroyer of 44 vintage will have the correct textures for you.
If you have any questions please pm or email me.
