Sunday break

Postby Hagar » Sun Apr 03, 2005 3:22 pm

Lovely morning so guess where I went? Here's a few more impressions of my favourite haunt.

Lancing College basking in the sunshine. Sussex Pad Hotel on the left. This is the view across the main A27.

Just caught this one.

One for Fozzer.
Image

A familiar sight these days.
Image

Not sure what this is. Anyone?
Image

Been trying to catch this chap for a while.
Image

Time for lunch so off to the terminal building on the other side of the field.
Image

Can't think of a nicer place to eat. Perfick. ;)
Image

Ah, Dave Grint arriving with a young passenger. Blast it. Should have hung on a few minutes to catch him on finals.
Image

Must see if I can get one of those jackets. It would just suit me. :D

Hope you like the pics. Sorry you couldn't join me for Sunday lunch. If the weather's like this next weekend I plan to try pastures new.

Thanks. I missed a good shot of ZAP showing off the sunburst paint job on the upper wings on my last visit. He did a more conventional approach today.

Is the first and ageing Piper Comanche perhaps... :)

I would say so. Probably a Comanche 250. Unfortunately I missed a side on shot so I don't know the reg. Had a ride in one back in the 60s. The pilot had picked it up from Piper's in the US & was en route to Singapore. I had the keys in my pocket all over the Bank Holiday weekend so I could repicket it if necessary. I felt quite wealthy for a while. 8) He gave me the ride plus a fiver for looking after it for him. A fiver was a week's wages then. ;)

Nice. Don't often see Comanches, even around here... I think I need one of those vests, too- that would make a nice slogan for my job! ;D

great pics... and that vest? it should say that on my uniform, that is the entire reason they have security at the sausage plant. ;D

I always liked the Comanche, a very smart looking aircraft. Pity I wasn't in the right place for a better shot. Maybe next time. It must qualify as a vintage type now but back in 1961 (or thereabouts) when I had the flight I mentioned it was the latest thing since sliced bread. Possibly the first time I'd ever seen one which makes me feel my age. ::) It was very rare to see any single-engined light aircraft with a nosewheel in those days, never mind retractable gear to boot. The only similar example I can think of was the beautiful little Falco F8L that sometimes visited. Very sleek & fast - looked more like a mini fighter. I think they're still in production today although the design might have been updated with modern materials.

great pics... and that vest? it should say that on my uniform, that is the entire reason they have security at the sausage plant.

Glad you like the jacket (vest). First time I've seen one of them too so I had to take a shot to prove it. The thought of a security officer in a sausage factory still makes me giggle for some reason. Sorry, I can't help it. :P ;)

Quality shots Doug! Sure was a nice weather!

I know, I've said this before about other planes, but doesn't the gear of that cirrus look afully small? I once had a skateboard with bigger wheels than the ones one that plane!
