China's C919

Postby Bubblehead » Sun Jan 04, 2015 2:46 pm

Will US airline industry buy and use China's new commercial jet? China seem to be bragging about their military aircraft superiority but just like Russia no one in the US wishes to use their commercial jet fleet. Do UK, France and Germany use Russian commercial jets? We use other foreign made aircraft in our airlines such as Embraer, SAAB, DeHavilland, Bombardiers, etc. but not Russian or Chinese made. Wonder why?

I failed to see among listed any major commercial passenger airlines in countries like Germany, UK, France, Japan, Korea, and the US. Why is this so? Certainly Russian passenger jets cost less.

International politics, logistics and economics, my friend. The same reasons you don't see American planes listed on the rosters of Russian, Cuban, and Chinese airlines. No one wants their supply of brake pads cut off because Putin's whoever and Ted Cruz are having a contest about the size of their respective genitalia.

That shouldn't speak to the quality of their airplanes, necessarily. Ask anyone who's seen one break ground: if An-2's could fly under anything but "experimental" certificates, there'd be a lot less DHC-2's and DHC-3's around.

For example, having worked on the Sukoi Superjet a couple of times, I can tell you it is a nice looking aircraft. One a whole it looks more like a regional Air Bus, probably because it was build in partnership and the quality is reflected by this. I think that the main problem with any American or UK company using Russian iron is............political interference. On the American side of the equation, can you imagine how many senators would all of a sudden be on the news if it was announced that American or North West were going to buy the Superjet. The other thing that gets in the way is that none of the Eastern Block countries aircraft are maintained according to Part 145 regulations. This is why Russian airlines operating Air Bus or Boeing aircraft (UTair, Aeroflot, S7 to name a few) either use outside contracted maintenance or heavily supported internal maintenance as all "Western" aircraft must be operated and maintained under Part 145 regulations. They are also subject to audits by national authorities when these aircraft are flown to said authorities counties. I know of one Russian airline at has had their Part 145 taken away from them twice......It is this requirement that is the biggest roadblock to operating any none Western aircraft.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Air Support does not do anything related to firebombing and no one in the US operates any Russian bird for fire fighting. As Expat said, regs come into play with those Russian birds and the FAA is incredibly anal about certifying tankers in the US.

On the topic of Air Support, google them and they are an airshow outfit, that said, I remember not to long ago an entity with the same name popped up proposing taking the gun & armor out of retired A-10s and firebombing with them...they could not understand CG...then to make themselves further appear incompetent, they proposed certifying and manufacturing the Be-200 for waterbombing in the US and claimed they could do it all in a year or 2 for less than $100 mil...On the topic of foreign aircraft in the US, the Be-200 did make a 'guest' appearance on fires in the US on a trial basis. Results were good and enthusiasm for the big Beriev but again, the FAA ensures that by the time you can use it in regular service, you will be mountains of cash and years in the hole!
