Is it possible ?!?!

Postby giotessari » Tue May 20, 2003 4:15 pm

Too often (more often with some planes) I can't reach the cruise altitude (eg FL 300) because even with a vertical speed of 400 fpm my plane arrive to a stall and the air traffic controller cancel my IFR plan  >:( ("..please expedite your climb to...." and so on for 4 times, then he cancel the IFR plan). Everything seems to be ok : flaps, AP etc. The only strange thing is that I can manouver the joystick (Ms Force Feed back Pro) just like the ALT button of the autopilot is not engaged even if the AP keeps the correct vertical climb (reaching a stall though). Anyone has a solution for this or a clue of what it could be ?

Thx

If you're stalling at 400 fpm you have bigger problems than ATC.  Even a Cessna 172 will climb at 700 fpm, although not to FL300.  The default climb rate for jets is 1800 fpm so there must be some other problem.

Are all of your engines on?
Flaps up (0)?
Gear up?
Throttle?

(Hi Tipster, how's that B-52 panel coming along?)

I have had this happen to me several times in different aircraft and have read a lot of postings here of other people having this problem, and even though there have been a lot of ideas as to what the problem may be, it still happens from time to time and makes no sense, regardless of what anyone suggests may be the cause of the problem, I thinks it's a glitch.
You will read in part nine of my misadventures which I am going to prepare for publishing tonight, I once again had this problem occur, then after taking off again from another airport with the same plane, the problem didn't occur again. What's up with that?
I fly using the same procedure each time, so I will not believe that it is related to pilot error.
Tipster, I like your suggestion about waiting until achieving cruise altitude before changing frequencys, I never thought of that, but as much as I have flown, and having only had the problem in question occur a few times, I guess I never considered something like that to be necessary. I do hate losing the IFR contact though.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

I've never had too much trouble with ATC cancelling my IFR before I reach my altitude, unless there's a problem. Usually if I maintain a steady rate of climb, ATC seems to recognize this and won't complain. Having said that, if it gets difficult to climb any further, they'll cancel it. Thankfully FS2004 has an ATC option of changing your cruising altitude!

(Hi Tipster, how's that B-52 panel coming along?)

Well the panel itself is, as of today, started from scratch.

That might seem like bad news, but it isn't. The reason is that I'm having to re-do the bitmaps as I've finally got the views engine working! (Major "YAY" from me! ;D)

I don't know if everyone is going to like the way this works, but I love it LOL.

Brief description:

For those of you that had FLY!, you've seen it already - sort of. It differs in that there's no animated scrolling of the view, but uses the same method for changing views, i.e. when the mouse is located at the top/bottom/left/right of the current view, an arrow appears and you click it to change view. The views themselves are not full screen changes though in most cases. For example, clicking the up arrow whilst in normal front mode, moves the view so that the view out of the windshield occupies the bottom half of the screen whilst the full overhead panel (as opposed to the partial on display in the main screen) occupies the top view.

Other advantages to this system are the ability to open the cabin and other doors (whether modelled in the aircraft or not) from the inside using a handle/switch on the door. Obviously if the plane doesn't have a working exit modelled this view is only available from the inside.
The possibilities with this are endless.

Work progresses...

Hey Fs Tipster, that's a good call.
WebbPA, everythings ok : flaps, engines, gear....There is no logical reason for that. After reading what paz said I guess I won't complain about this problem anymore  ;D even though it's annoying (better, non realistic at all).

well, mixture will play a big role in this, if you DONT use automixture (in the realism settings) then press CTRL+F2 a few times..although boeings dont have a mixture knob, it will recognise high mixture from the previous craft, and it will have to high mixture..so turn it down a bit and you should be flying..sorry if i sound complicating, but im a bit tired..hope it helps anyway

I'm sure you guys already thought of this but, are you trying to go above the aircraft's service ceiling?
