It can be a surprisingly useful tool. You can fly direct to Airports,VORs,NDBs and Intersections. The last three you wonder why but on the odd occasion I have used them because gave me a better set up than flying direct to an airport. There again you have to know where you are, where you're going and what your alternatives are.

Well, the GPS in FS2002 is pretty basic, but it achieves what it is supposed to, and that is to provide sufficient aid to navigation.

In Fs2004, the garmin GPS is superbly advanced. One thing I like about garmin is the terrain mode. The use of garmin is a little complicated, but the documentation and the King's video provided are of great help.

One limitation of Fs2002 is that there is a lack of information regarding various topics, and one such is the GPS along with the radio.

I would say that the documentation style and content of FS2004 along with the simplicity of FS2002 combined would have made a very good product. Alone, FS2002 lacks sufficient good and detailed documentaion of several topics , and FS2004 alone lacks 'new features'. FS2004 can be considered as an upgrade package rather than a unique one.

LOL this talk of GPS.Why not fly like real aviators of old-VISUALY. Follow your compass,landmarks like buildings,roads,lakes,etc. What about the rotating beacons? I say we bring them back! Lets be men about this-Not a bunch of Cybernetic sissies.

You honestly think that after I have paid for this setup and FS that I am going to fly a Tiger Moth around the world with my finger stuck out of the cockpit to see which way the wind is blowing??

NO!!

I spent countless frustrating minutes working out that GPS and I intend to use it when I need to and even when I don't!! If it's available I'll use it,why only last night I nearly crashed on landing because I had all available pop-ups in use.

Packer,Where is your sense of nostalgia,my good man? Rotating beacons were fine,but like most other aspects of life,things became complicated and aggravating by all the electronic whizz bang wonder gizmos that were suposed to help our spiecies I must admit,I use GPS when I fly comercial,But I find it most thrilling and challenging to pilot a biplane at night in a driving rain with only the most primitive of instruments to aid."By the seat of the pants"-like aviators of a bygone era. But thats just me. Good luck with your project,my friend-Happy landings!

Thanks Phil,I'll try very hard to rid myself of this technological affliction. I have made recent progress though----I can now ignore ATC without feeling guilty or the urge to bow when I do reply!!

When the technology is available, why not use it? Of course, that means we lose out on the fun part a little bit, but hey, Garmin is fun - trust me!  ;D
