You know, it might be more than just a joke. With today's technology, why couldn't we come up with something similar that would soak up just oil, and not water? In a much larger size of course.

I suspect that a lot of this oil is not only on the surface, but held in suspension from the surface to the sea-bed!

I think they are going to have to put a filter on the bed of the Gulf of Mexico to strain the oil, then pull the plug out, and empty the clean water, temporarily, into the Great Lakes... ::)...!

Would also solve the shortage of Fish, at the same time!

...or not?... :-/...!
