not if the question is the sentence, not the quotation.
For example:
Jim asked, "Who said that?"
Who said, "Shut up"?
Maybe in Europe, I believe it's true in the UK;
but in North America, the punctuation always goes inside the quotation marks.
That is how I was taught, and that is how I will always write.
Punctuation is simply done wrong in North America.
For example:
Who said, "Who said that?"?
Alter the punctuation without altering the meaning...
I don't know how that came about... All's I know, is, "We put the puncuation inside the quotes." Ya... And we like gallons instead of litres, (liters!) to measure. But our temperature system sucks for sure. Stupid Farenheit... hooray for celcius!And the question mark goes inside the quotation marks.
I'm not sure if Steve & blackbird are the only American posting in this thread, but oh well.
