Fozzer. I don't see what difference this would make to you or any other private user.

My local Inland Revenue office is still on Win95. It works fine for what they use it for. I suppose they will now automatically update all their offices at vast expense & you & I will have to pay for it, as usual. LOL ::)

it's a preliminary action... probably sun said they would put a financial penalty on the support.

This is not the official outcome of the ruling... that is coming.

this affair does NOT affect Windows 98 Se, the last version of Win 98.

I'm still happy with my J++, with the MS extensions turned on  ;D

Hi Doug...!
My worry is that Microsoft will no longer offer any more help or support for Win '98 in the way of up-dated service pack downloads.
Many of my Win '98 files are now no longer WQL, (Windows Quality Labs), certified....(dxdiag.exe).
Th BIG problem will occur when we have a major crash. We can re-install our Win '98 files again from our disk, but the necessary up-dates will no longer be available from MS... :'(..!
A close look at the small print seems to indicate that Windows '98 SE (second edition) is not affected at present, but I bet that wont last for long.... >:(...!

Cheers... ;D...!

My concern is that MS (as it is already doing) will intentionally write code that can't be run under W98 and it will offer incentives to others to do the same thing.  I wouldn't be surprised if FS2006 is incompatible with W98.

In the meantime, go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/down ... porate.asp  download everything you can and write it to cd.

As with all version of Windows, the time comes to end support. It's been almost 6 years since Win98 was released, and it's Microsoft's way of trying to make everyone upgrade ;D

Well its about time I'd say. After 6 years of 98 ya think you could cough up a couple hundred bucks for an upgrade. Future programs and games will NOT support 95 or 98, some already don't.

So what you're saying in effect is this: In order to use the latest (or even existing) software you would not only be forced to purchase a new video card but also a new OS to go with it. This is fine if you wish to get the best out of it but it seems rather like blackmail to me. M$ has always operated like this. They have their customers over a barrel & they know it. I can't think of one other example where any company in a comparable industry would be allowed to get away with it.
