LOL blade no offence but you will need to work on the running. Under ten will just get you yelled at, try under 6 to make the *sadists* you call instructors happy.

Well the recruiter said they really aren't worried about how far you run lol. But yea I am running now. I have to do 2 miles in under 18 by the end of basic. Six weeks of basic will help me get there.

well you have pleanty of time at least, when i first started running it took me about 15 mins to run a mile after 6 weeks of running every day i got it right down to 3:58, it just takes dedication, and the results are well worth it

Re: I'm going into the USAF...

the first two weeks i was dragged around 2 miles, on a relitavly flat course, the 3rd week i was then took on a 4 mile run and then 6 mile for the final few weeks, my dad was in the army at the time, and as i was looking flabby he decided to take me out running with him thats how i first started, i was given certain maximum times i had to achieve  and i would usually get something if i did, and being younger at the time the prospect of money for doing that was rather appealing, the first few days i could barely do the two miles, even my fat little dog was out running me:) but once my legs were used to it and the initial pain was gone it became alot easier. the thing was i was given specific distances which meant no real option but to do it, not like going one day 2 miles and then only 1 mile the next, as that doesnt work. all i can say is dont decrease what you run. but dont over do it either, once i was able to run long distances i pushed to hard and tore my MCL and ACL. i have only run a few times since.
Ozzy's recently taken up running he may be able to give some good advice

Ok thanks for the advice, I'll get to work on it everyday this entire summer. During school next year I'll see if I can do it in the evening.

good luck:) best way to do it is start out on a mile run, if you still feel after the first mile you can go further do it, for the first few runs set yourself a time to achieve but dont worry to much about it, then once your fitness is improved always aim to beat it, even if that means crawling through your front door after your done:) and believe me i have done that a few times:)
Good luck

Now that summer (hmmmmmpphh) is comming I get 7 weeks off and plan to run, swim and visit the local gym twice a week each, I think my lifespan has just been reduced to a few days :'(.
