I think most people are fooling themselves if they think the bottled stuff is healthier. I've read that tap water in the UK is generally purer than the bottled stuff. It's their choice if they want to pay through the nose for it.
I saw something on my first holiday in Spain that shows just how stupid the whole thing is. We had been advised to drink only bottled water & also clean our teeth with it as the tap water might not be too reliable for visitors. (The locals were used to it.) One morning I was walking round the back of the hotel when a barman came out & filled all the empties from the previous evening with tap water from a standpipe. These were promptly put on the shelves ready for sale. Says it all really.
PS. That was back in the early 70s. If someone had told me then that the British public would be happily paying
