As my main interest in the various flight sims is mainly to explore the scenery around me, rather than the fancy aircraft I am using/flying, I have always preferred the 2D panels, which contains all the information I require at a single glance.
Many of the default 2D panels can also be resized, (compressed lower), to enable a better vision forward.
Another advantage of the 2D panels, is the ability to modify the 2D panels easily, using my FS Panel Studio.
I know a lot of the VC Pilots decry the use of 2D panels, but for my particular purpose,
exploration, using a map and compass, they are absolutely essential....

Most of my flights alternate between the use of the 2D panel, and the mini-panel, for perfect outside vision.
The colour of my aeroplane is of little importance to me. It is merely a means of transport!!...
