Also, I'm making sure I don't unintentionally touch the brake trigger.
BTW, I'm using that "mod" that forces FSX to start with cold & dark cockpit (never mind which aircraft I select in the free flight menu) by placing a file named 'cold & dark.FLT' file in the "flight simulator files" folder. Maybe that's what causing the method offered above to fail?

. A quick scan of it showed a list of radio state, aircraft position and last but not list, a "control" section. Quickly enough I found a line " ParkingBrake=000.00". Be sure that changing that to "ParkingBrake=100.00" started my flight with parking brakes on
