Selectable aircraft pics out of wack

Postby a47mlb » Sat Dec 15, 2007 2:50 pm

I've downloaded a bunch of different aircraft over the past couple months. Since then, when I go to Select Aircraft, the pics don't match up with the title of the aircraft. Where can I fix this?

Look through the aircraft.cfg (open with notepad) and match all lines with opening and closing quotes >>>" "<<< as follows......

[fltsim.0]
title=Boeing 737-800 Paint1
sim=Boeing737-800
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=1
kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref
>atc_id=N737W
>atc_airline=Boeing
>atc_flight_number=
>ui_manufacturer=>>>"Boeing"<<<
>ui_type=>>>"737-800"<<<
>ui_variation=>>>"Boeing livery"<<<
>ui_typerole=>>>"Commercial Airliner"<<<
ui_createdby=>>>"Microsoft Corporation"<<<
description=>>>"One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service."<<<

If you ensure ui manufacturer and all other items have some kind of descriptor this will take the plane out of the other category and present less problems, becoming easier to find in the process too. They are all marked in this colour > as an example.  Then save and restart FSX.

If using Vista, you may need to save to the desktop first, make a backup copy of the original file, then drag the desktop version into the folder.

In addition, if the thumbnails in the 'Select Aircaft' window don't match the aircraft:

The thumbnails are a file named 'thumbnail.jpg' found in the appropriate ..\texture*\ folder(s) within each aircrafts main folder.

If you see a 'cartoon' thumbnail for an aircraft in the 'Select Aircraft' window, then there is no 'thumbnail.jpg' in the appropriate \texture*\ folder.

If you see thumbnails that don't match, somehow they've gotten mixed up, or maybe the wrong thumbnail was included in the download.

A thumbnail can be created by cropping and resizing a screenshot of the aircraft. Default format for a thumbnail is 256x128, jpeg, file name 'thumbnail.jpg'.

The 'Autothumbnail v2'

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

If an aircraft appears in the 'other' category then its almost certain the thumbnails will get mixed up.  No matter if you have the correct images in the right place or not......  but good info about creating and placing them, just the same.  The file structure of the aircraft.cfg has to remain fairly consistent throughout the existing planes and those of the new added planes.
