FS UFOs??!!??

Postby beefhole » Mon Jul 18, 2005 8:26 pm

Let me start with a little background-I'm in the middle of doing routine hops for my VA, Delta virtual, flying the 752.  This week, I have a three-day trip scheduled:

KJFK-KDEN-KCVG-KDFW-KATL-KSLC-KJFK

I write this as I fly DFW-ATL.

The story starts with me grounded in Denver, due to heavy t-storms directly over the airport.  After a 35 minute delay, Delta 626 with non-stop service to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Intl is wheels up at 2129.

I climb to my cruising altitude of 35,000 and settle in, trying to stay awake (it was around 0 dark in RL).  Roughly an hour and a half into cruise, somewhere over Missouri, it happens.

Although I may be looking away from the screen, I have good peripheral vision and when something changes out of my focus, I still catch it.  At the same time as I look up to check my fuel flow, a silver (gray, possibly white) streak crosses the plane, on a heading of about, at best guess, 150.

Holy **** my heart almost exploded.  Immediately, I hit ctrl+shift+L, which will tag any plane within 10 miles, and look out my right window.  Nothing.  I look back to my left, in case I misjudged the direction.  Nothing.

I wake my FO, Invisible Man.

"Hey!  Invisible!  Did you just see that?"
"See what?"
"The thing that just crossed the plane!"
"No.  Leave me alone now, don't you have work to do?"

He was right.  Invisible was a nice guy and all, but he never really did any work.  It always seemed like I was doing everything for all stages of flight.  Anyways...

Anyone else had any experiences like this? It might've been an FS shooting star, but I've never seen one.  I mean, my heart literally leapt out of my chest, it scared the crap out of me.  It was on and off the screen in about half a second.

Ah, havent a clue at what it is.  But best judgement leads to shooting star, or possible contrail texture mishap.  Too bad it scared you that bad though!

Probably a contrail :) However, since FS2002, there has been a shooting star fx in the game's files...maybe you had a near miss with an asteroid :)

It might have just been a quick little glitch.  Sometimes when I'm flying the textures/viewpoint jump around for a split second as in they shift out of place.

Probably a contrail :)

That's what I thought it might've been, but in FS where there's a contrail there's a plane close by, and there wasn't a plane anywhere near me on this one.

Nope, no PAI, although I plan on finally downloading some of it soon, and, like I said, it was on and off the screen in about a half second, so no screenie.  The one thing that I know for sure is that it definitely appeared to be moving, not just a stationary texture.

I have a lot of PAI stuff installed.  But WHERE do you find the UFO files?  I just went to the PAI site and could not find them anywhere.

There's an comet effect you can download from Avsim, I have that but rarely it happens in the daytime.  At night you could see it once in a while.

I don't think it would be a UFO. If there were UFOs i reckon Microsoft would have made it a bit more obvious, like displaying for a little longer, weird tags or allowing you to follow it. What was the weather at the time? Was there a cloud infront or below you? Could it have been a lightning bolt? Or some other weather phenomenon?
