Strobes too fast

Postby Ijineda » Tue Sep 28, 2004 3:28 pm

Hi everyone, I love flying at night! But since a few days, the strobes both of my planes and my AI-Traffic are flashing and blinking way too fast. Only if I set the simulator-speed to 1/4 it approxiamtely looks like it did before...any suggestions how to solve this problem? another thing: my (P)AI-Planes are flying with their lights switched on even on daytime. Thanks!

Has this always been a problem from the start ?
Or has it just started doing it after you added a aircraft. I would consider loading all of the default effects from disk one and overwrite but make a backup first.
If this has always been a problem then check your drivers out. 8)
I suspect that a added aircraft has altered this. A lot of aircraft come with an effects folder and if you copy and overwrite this could be the result. I never replace a file unless I know what it is and I am sure this is what I want to do 8)

Welcome to the club.

What have you installed for freeware aircraft lately?

latest ones I have installed are the new Corsair and the Russian Tupelov. Nothing else lately

No, the problem occured after installing an aircraft..not sure which one it was. Here are my latest installed planes:
Badger Tupolev-16 Aerogaviota Cuba (for FS 2002)

Meljet v2 Model B777-200ER & B777-300ER Air France

Mikoyan MiG-21 SMT for FS2002

A340 aircraft for FS2002

Lockheed  U-2 R

Boeing 767 by iFDG (came with an autoinstaller  :o)

Airbus A320 by iFDG (with fx-files like "iFGG_A320_greennav.fx")

Thats all for the past ten days; if the problem was caused by an airplane it must be in this group. I also installed a few scenerys but I dont think this may cause the prob. Or maybe I shouldnt have installed 2002-Planes?

I found this info on another site:

In the effects folder open fx_strobe or/and fx_strobeh with textviewer

change the value "Rate=5.0, 5.0" to a lower value=longer pause between flashes

example;

Lifetime=0.00, 0.00
Delay=0.00, 0.00
Bounce=0.00
No Interpolate=1
Rate=2.0, 2.0
etc.

but also change further down

Lifetime=0.00, 0.00
Delay=0.00, 0.00
Bounce=0.00
No Interpolate=1
Rate=2.0, 2.0
etc.

This seems more realistic to me.
experiment with the rate values to suite your taste.
You can add more emitters (Emitter.2 & 3; copy & paste 1 & 2 below and change to 2 & 3) and slightly offset the rate value of those; Rate=2.5, 2.5 to get that quick double flash a la dc-10

I am at work so no clue if this will solve our problem. Anyone want to try? ;D

Now I have deleted my whole Effects-Folder and replaced it by the default one - the strobes are blinking normally again. But I also think the critical value is this one:
[Emitter.0]
Lifetime=0.00, 0.00
Delay=0.10, 0.90
Bounce=0.00
No Interpolate=1
Rate=3.50, 6.00

In the deleted effect files it looked like that:
Rate=5.00, 5.00

So thanx everybody for helping!!! :)

Good news. Now I need to get off work in a few hours, go home and fix my speedy blinkers!
