Spruce Goose!!!!!

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

I don't think the problem is people who aren't interested, I think the problem is that people don't know much about the plane.

 TO RICHIEB16;
YOU SUGGESTED I MAKE A (.TIF) FILE OUT OF THE SPRUCE GOOSE POSTER. I DID THAT. NOW , HOW DO I FIND SOMEONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN DESIGNING THE BIRD IN FS2K2 OR CFS2?

I thought about building a Spruce Goose for a long time.  I've been trying to learn both design programs (FSDS Pro and GMAX-I have both of them) and I'm hoping to be able to start my first project in the near future.  Could you send me those image files for the Spruce Goose, if I am to be able to build one, I need images for a background.  Thanks

P.S. I probably won't ever finish the plane but it would be fun to try.

Most of the flightsim model builders are, to a certain extent, budding aviation historians.

Those who model "newer" planes can probably quote chapter and verse on the latest avionics, armaments, capabilities, of the latest B777, etc.

To those that like the classics, the Hughes Spruce Goose was a plane that came in "too late".  The War spelled the death knell for long distance flying boats, just as it gave rise to the long-distance land plane transports (DC-4, Constellation, etc.).  Even Martin's excellent Mars series only had limited service - fortunately one still flies, as an airborne fire fighter.

Hughes could have developed the Spruce Goose, but I believe that even he realized that the day of the super-flying boat was over.

Make sure you get GOOD scale three views or drawings.  The one I picked of the Internet appears to have gone some scanning distortion - If you get the top and front views wingspan the same, the side and top views lengths are different...

It's not a limit in Gmax, but a limit in FS.

So, you go the old-fasioned way ;) Bundle 2 engines, Oops, 3 engines for each single engine in the air file :) Would be a bummer to model in-flight engine trouble though ;) You'd lose 3 engines at once!

Hey Bonzonie, could you explain that problem with the engines a little more.  I wasn't aware of it and I don't understand what I'll need to do to fix it.

The problem comes later on when oyu model the air file. Nothing wrong when you are building.

The problem is that FS only supports up to 4 engines. If you have 8, you end up controlling 2 engines each.

Hi, I'm new but thats not important...

Anyway I was reading this topic and I noticed the argument over the flight time and altitude of the Spruce Goose. I would need to do a bit of research but because of the massive size and weight of the Goose and the way it's first and only flight took place that it may have been flying on ground effect. I'm sure you have seen the old CCCP Ekranoplan projects. Large flying boats that were basiacally ground effect vehicles only capeable of low altitude flight. although the Goose's wings should create more lift the eight enigens may not have been quite powerful enough. Its just a loose theory and would require research but I just wanted to throw it out there.

By the way if this sounds completly stupid let me know.
