Display problem

Postby Glitch » Sat Nov 19, 2005 5:21 pm

I have a problem, I am making scenery for fs9 using FSDSv2 to generate the .bgls.  I generate a bgl and the last part I added will dissapear when I rotate or turn slightly in the sim. Has anyone else run across this, know what causes it, or just know a fix? Thanks for any input, even guesses!

Sorry, I'm a Gmax user! ;D

But I would recomend that you go visit the FFDS forums (Free Flight Design Shop).  Just click the link in my signature.

I tried FFDS forums, and found a coupla posts that had a few hints, but no answers. After a few days of trial and error I found a workable process. First I removed the animated catapillar track parts from the dissapearing model, no help. Then I stripped all pre processes and keyframes from the remaining parts. Still no help. The next thing I tried was merging the model with a previous .bgl and suprise! It only dissapeared when viewing it from one angle at a range of about 50ft.
So I deleted the dissapearing mdl from the previous.fsc and added a large rock part in the spot that viewing the dissapearing mdl caused it to snap out of view. Then re merged the 2 .fscs. Joy! The mdl that was dissapearing displayed flawlessly. I could slew or taxi right up to it and look right into the cockpit! But as I was slewing around the scenery area I noticed that the large rock I had placed would snap out of display at another view angle and distance. Can't have rocks poping in and out any more than I could have the Chariot scenery model doing it. So again I placed parts in the spot where viewing the rock caused it to snap out of view. This time I used reference parts which are not displayed anyway. That seemed to fix the rocks problem. I sent the scenery to the beta testers yesterday for closer examination. I do not claim this as a hard and fast fix but it seems to have worked in this case.

Hi
It has to do with scale and size in relation to the center point of your project. The following is a quote from Martin Wright

"If you are making library objects then it is the SIZE value in the object header that tells CFS2 how "wide" the object is and so when it can stop drawing it because it is all off the side of your screen. If this value is too small then it will think the object is out of view when its centre point is just off screen.

SIZE is, I think, done relevant to SCALE so if your object scale is 0.01 and it is 50m wide you need a SIZE value of 5000 and so on.

CFS2 also prefers objeccts at a very small scale. The default buildings are 0.001. Objects of larger scale (like the CFS1 objects, many of which are 1.0 or 0.5) tend to disappear much too soon in the distance"end quote:)

whist dealing with cfs2 the same thing can happen in FS9
so try makeing the scale in fsds project properties lower say .0001 try uping the range scale which is also in that section,or making the project an api macro then using a scenery design program like FSSC to place the item allows you to tweak the settings
cheers
