creating a panel/ deleting the extra cfg files

Postby wish_bear » Thu Oct 09, 2003 10:15 am

after working on a panel and saving it various times you end up with like 47 cfg files. I kept the first one and the last one and deleted the rest- bad lesson to learn since my panel would not open. I copied the deleted cfgs back into the panel folder but it still did not work. I ended up recreating the panel.

Is there a way to reduce/clean up the number of cfgs that end up in the newly created panels?

What are you using to create/edit your panels?  If its CfgEdit, it should be just fine to delete the extra panel.cfgs, but I tend to just make another folder in the panel folder and title "panel_baks" or something.  Stick all the extra panel.cfgs in there.  That should clean it up some.

FS Panel Studio is what I am making my panel in.

I'm almost certain that FS Panel Studio is based on CfgEdit. This makes a backup copy of Panel.cfg each time you modify it. I never rely on utilities with an automatic backup feature. The way I work is to take a backup copy of the complete Panel folder (or any other file/folder) before attempting to modify it.

This is the quickest & easiest method I know to back up a file/folder:
Right-click on the Panel folder & select Copy.
Then right-click anywhere in the same window & select Paste.
You will now have a new folder named Copy of Panel.

Leave the backed up folder in the parent folder of the aircraft it belongs to & rename it with any name you wish. I use the conventional FS folder naming conventions, Panel.0, Panel.1 etc. This allows me to swap panels if I wish by editing the panel= entry in Aircraft.cfg.
