Latest project

Postby TacitBlue » Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:17 pm

I always have something under construction, all kinds of things. This time it was a longbow.

It started out as an ordinary red oak board from the lumber yard and a piece of walnut rescued from the firewood stack.

Full draw.

I don't intend to hunt with this bow, it's just for recreational target practice. Because of that, I made it light with only 35 pound draw weight. I don't need more than that for shooting hay bales.

Well, thanks for looking. Dare I ask has anyone else here ever made a bow?

Bee-yoo-ti-full! Nice work, I love the craftsmanship!
I went outside once. The graphics weren't all that great.

I 2nd that. You have great craftsmanship... you want to build me a Kayak???
Carriers would be so mush easier to land on if they would just stop turning!!!

Like they said, that is some great wood work.  I used to shoot archery but I used a compound.

Gorgeous bow. :)

I shot compounds for several years, but never had a longbow. Always wanted one though. Don't have the skills or tools to make one.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Thanks for the compliments guys. :)

It's not as hard as you think to build a bow, check out http://poorfolkbows.com/ I built one following the directions under "red oak board bow...". Once I had learned the ins-and-outs and how the dynamics of a wooden leaf  spring work I changed the design a bit and made the one pictured above. So I can't take all the credit, but you have to learn this stuff from somewhere. ;)

Very nice craftsmanship! I love the way the wood is layered like it is near the grip. Check this girl out in the pic, she takes the longbow to a whole new level..  8-)
