Night-time 737 with snow in Calgary

Postby Rifleman » Sat Nov 27, 2010 1:38 am

I recently had to take a run across the country to do one of life's most miserable chores.......it was dealt with and am sad for it, but on the way I had a stop-over in Calgary between 10:00 and midnight, so with camera in hand, I tried a few hand-held images in a very tough lighting situation......Here is one I shot at 1/15 sec at f4.5 and ISO 2000......yes 2000 .....focal length was 20mm, and in 35mm film days, that would be the equivalent of 40mm.

That is a very good shot. I like the tire tracks in the snow. It's funny, I've never seen a Boeing without paint.  :-[ Do you know what airline it is?
I went outside once. The graphics weren't all that great.

Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.

Lovely shot. Nice little airport at Calgary. Nice city too - super views from the Calgary Tower on a clear day. :)

Yes Doug, we had about 3 inches of the white stuff a couple of days ago, but it's all back to motorcycles and damp roads now.....no more snow for the moment - just the usual winter drizzle..... ::)

Ah, you speak fondly of the Olympus brand....this shot was made with an E-620 of that same name....still, even today with all the advances in digital photography, I can attest to the fact that digital is not on par with film yet.  The latitude of film, from highlight to shadow, is head and shoulders above what is possible with a single un-manipulated shot done with a digital sensor. Not within the reach of the average price limited budget conscious consumer, anyway.
