Planes of Fame

Postby BAW0343 » Wed Jun 30, 2010 6:40 am

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Planes of Fame Fly-in at Valle airport outside of Flagstaff Arizona. Main activity was high speed passes, if the aircraft was able that is. :D The Tri-motor did its best, but it just kinda lumbered by.  ;)

Goodly morning BAWO343... :)

Wonderful shots and thanks for taking us along... :)

Any other shots of the Ford Tri-motor inside and outside?
The P38...close up of the cockpit and rear step?
The Jap Val, inside and outside?

Seeing those would be awesome.   :)

Much thanks again.

Lovely shots. Just one question though, is there more than one "Planes of Fame" museum. I visited the Planes of Fame museum at Chino. Are they a chain museum (for want of better words)?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Expat, not really sure about the museum. I suppose it may be. This is the website that had the info for the Fly-in, maybe it will have more. http://www.planesoffame.org/

Flying Trucker, I have a couple of those. Will post a few links just for you! Unfortunately, nothing of interiors, except for the p-38 which I was able to take pictures of a separate cockpit in the museum.

Looks like they are sister museums. Chino is listed under "visit us"

Thanks ever so much...very nice... :)

I always did like that P38 and the cockpit is a real work of art.
The vastness in size of the Pacific Theater made the twin engine fighter very suitable for the job.    ;)

No problem Trucker, The panel is quite nice now that you mention it!

Mic, I would have taken the ride had I not needed to pay for Gas for the rest of the weekend..

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

That P-38 shot is almost an abstract.  Upon first glance, all you see are the rear of the radiator which looks a bit like a jet, then you look closer and see the props.  It speaks to me and says the P-38 was ahead of its time.

Well done!
