Glad you're ok Martyn. I'm not much of a BM fan myself, but they do stand up well to accidents (and bus stops ;-) )

On Christmas eve our friends parked their Transit LWB Hi-Top minibus on the bottom of our drive, half off the road.

A guy in a 5 series ploughed straight into the back of it, not sure how. He pushed it about 16ft along the road, and the minibus rolled onto it's side. Both vehicles are mechanical write off's, but the BMW soaked up the impact in a way I wouldn't have believed. Driver was fine if a little shocked.

We get a lot of students driving like lunatics along our road, if it had been 5 lads in an old Vauxhall Corsa they would have be smeared all over the inside.

Blow out's are my biggest fear when driving with the kids  :-/

I also agree with Ken, a nice corvette would suit you nicely :p

Downsize to a 5 series. More than big enough and comfortable enough. Can be picked up cheap and fairly inexpensive to run compaired to the 7 series.

Had a 5 before the 7 Craig & to be honest there wasn't much difference cost wise - in fact the 7's are cheaper to buy because most people don't want big cars with big engines these days.

The biggest cost factor is just running two cars - two lots of insurance, tax, servicing, mot's & general wear & tear.

Blame the insurance companies... An old beemer can be fairly cheap to buy even with reasonable mileage, yet the insurance companies will charge you a lot more. But in a crash, the BMW will probably stand up better. So more expensive to insure, but causes less injury. They are probably more concerned with the cost of replacing bodywork than fixing any bodies in the car. Go figure...

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
