How Do You Organize Your Photo Library?

Postby BFMF » Sun May 31, 2009 9:31 pm

Do you guys use any photo organizer software? I've been accumulating thousands upon thousands of photos over the years, and they are an unorganized mess. So how do you guys organize your photo libraries? Do any of you use any good photo library software?

Is the Canon Digital Photo Professional program any good? I just discovered that it is on a CD that came with my camera...lol

Seeing as I mostly take shot of airplanes, this is my system.

Aviation (folder)
-Date
-Airport
-Airline (if commercial)
-Registration

Then after uploaded to whatever site, they're dumped on my external hard drive.

If it's other than aviation, it's sorted just by date as I remember what I shot on each particular day (for whatever reason).

I use an external hard drive that is only used for said pictures and nothing else....they are as cheap as chips now so the investment is worth it and Google Picasa It scans the drive and then lists EVERY picture on the hard drive placing it in listing you want, date, category etc. It also gives a thumbnail for all pictures. Best of all it is free!!

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

All my picture are kept on an external hard drive.  All my aviation pictures are in one folder with several sub-folders. Below is how I do it.

 - Main folder named Aviation
       - Year
          - What Airport or Airshow
-Date for Airport and Date / Airshow Title

Non-Aviation
         -Year
            - Event and date or Subject and Date ( for misc. pictures )
