New (retro) bike.

Postby TSC. » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:07 am

Evenin' all,

Just a quick pic of a new (to me) bike I'm building up at the moment. Managed to get my hands on a 1992 Mongoose Amplifier, a cracking little bike from my *glory days* of mtb racing. (*best viewed through rose tinted glasses ;))

Anyhoo, I came across this one in my size & managed to snap it up, the seller had received offers from as far away as Australia.

Wow they still make Spin Rims?  I was using those back in my BMX days in High School, glad to see they're still around!!  An excellent set of wheels, what kind of crank set do you plan on using?  I had Black Widow 3pc cranks with GT platform pedals (the Black Widow pedals were a bit too toothy, shred your shins in a heartbeat lol)  This was mounted on a Diamond Back frame, was a blast to ride!!!

Probably a week or two as I'm still waiting on a few of bits to arrive, XTR rear mech, hose guides for the rear brake & a bottom bracket.

That's supposed to be a really good frame design... enjoy!!

Yeah, it's supposed to be a cracker, it was adopted from AMP Research & used by Fat Chance Cycles & Rocky Mountain aswell. Still a very popular design with the folks who used to ride & race back in the early 90's.

Sweet, are you building it yourself?

I've built up as much as I can now, I used to work in a bike shop doimg mechanics in my yoof (good way to get cheap parts if your racing ;) especially Oakleys - had about 8 pairs at one time
