Thrust reverse

Postby expat » Sun Nov 02, 2008 3:01 pm

Been a while since I did any show and tell. Today I had to remove an thrust reverser to replace a carrier bearing. Here are a couple of pictures I took on the way.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

You are looking at one half of the thrust reverse "C" section. This YouTube video shows the Translation sleeve moving. The fan air is then directed out of the cascades, the black areas that are visible when the sleeve is driven back. They look like huge cheese graters ;D They direct the air in various directions around the sides of the engine. Inside as the sleeve drives back, blocker doors raise up to stop the air from exiting out of the "C" section (bypass exhaust).....That is the short layman version :D

Cool. I've never seen that kind of engine opened up like that before.
