Avia BH.1 and BH.5

Postby krigl » Sun Sep 21, 2008 2:25 pm

Here's a couple of pics of two planes one doesn't often see... unique (I think) replicas of two nice little Czech monoplanes, originally built in 1922 and 1923.

Small point of interest: When built in '23 the BH.5 was flown to Brussels to compete for the 'Belgian King's Prize' and Touring Prize' at the Belgian Aeroclub. The pilot, Dr Zdenek Lhota, didn't have time for the usual formalities after construction ended, so he flew to Brussels with a stopover in Mayence without the knowledge of the German government... and came back home to Czechoslovakia with both prizes in the trunk - it was the first Czechoslovak plane to win an international race.  :)

Cheers

Wonderful. I've never even seen a picture of these types before.

Now there's something special... Hardly the sexiest fuselages ever, but jeez, the historical importance of these birds... Even as replica's. I love how one is connected to Belgium...

Cheers guys.  :D

The BH.5 replica was only finished last year... and it's just made a reconstruction of the flight to Brussels in company with the BH.1. This time with the permission of our German colleagues...

I've posted a couple of screenshot threads in payware with a link to the aircraft for FS9 and X if anyone's interested.

And here is a link to info about both trips to Brussels:

Omag may be interested to see the Belgians actually operated a later Avia model for some time.

It's a great little plane.  :)

What a cracking pair. Can't say I've seen them before. :)

I think the fairest way to describe the design is "functional". They won't have won any beauty contests! ;D
